Meet our Artists > Pat Filzen

As a textile artist, I try to capture emotions with fibers and colors. As a weaver and felter, the materials I use also help to tell the story of the finished art piece.

My own sheep provide wools that I have hand dyed and spun. I also use other exotic fibers and metallic threads.

I believe art is functional - whether it is to be walked on, worn, hung on a wall or is a free-standing sculpture. To surround oneself with the beautiful and the practical gives life inspiration and joy.

My felted landscapes are for everyday use, as pictures to be hung, as mats and table wear, as rugs, as soft sculptures, and as tea and coffee cozies.

I've developed my own style of painting with wool - felting in a painterly fashion. Many of my pieces reflect floral designs reminiscent of impressionist artists such as O'Keeffe, Monet and others. Art, warmth and the rejuvenation of tea come together in my tea cozy collection.

The woven rugs and tapestries reflect the textures inherent in the wool. My sculpted rugs, whether monochromatic or filled with many threads of color, play with the fluidity of the wool. They are flexible, aesthetic surface coverings; for the wall or floor.
