Meet our Artists > Terry Hope Last January 2009, I had a deeply emotional family trip to Florida. In my distress, I escaped for some solo car camping and began to take solace in natural surroundings familiar from my childhood. I picked up a small batch of art supplies including color pencils and watercolors and began to create some artwork. On this trip I had a shift inside. I committed to a dedicated pursuit of my art. I began exploring at home, across central Wisconsin, obsessively trying to capture images of things I want to remember and revisit. All 2009 I worked strictly with color pencils and watercolor on paper. The outpouring of artwork that began in Florida has not stopped and a love for color pencil has developed. Something else vital happened this year. I found artists whose work has inspired me powerfully. First I found Frank Big Bear, then Star Wallowing Bull, then Angela Carlson, and the late George Morrisson, all represented by Bockley Gallery of Minneapolis -- clear, astonishing, beautiful voices that make me want to sing in response. I want to participate in the world outside my house. Now I have begun. When I joined the co-op, I joined the choir. About my primary medium -- color pencils: Terry is also represented by Charlene's Gallery Ten of Door County, Wisconsin. |
